The 2021 IFC includes provisions to protect people and property from fire and explosion hazards. General measures, emergency planning and readiness, fire department access and water supply, automated sprinkler and fire alarm systems, specific dangers, and hazardous substance storage and use are among the topics covered.
International Fire Code Key changes to the IFC are as follows:
New standards for additive manufacturing (3-D printing) equipment and procedures in both non-industrial and industrial settings.
When artificial flammable vegetation is permanently planted and reaches certain heights on rooftops or near structures, its flame propagation performance must be evaluated.
Provisions for emergency responder communication have been modified to reflect improvements beyond radios and the need for greater system performance.
