The 2024 edition of the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) represents the latest advancements in the plumbing field. This is the eighth edition developed under the ANSI Consensus process and is designated as an American National Standard by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). The content of this code is the result of contributions from all sectors of the building industry, including consumers, enforcing authorities, installers/maintainers, labor, manufacturers, research/standards/testing laboratories, special experts, and users. The goal of the UPC is to provide customers with sanitary and safe plumbing systems while still allowing room for new ideas and technologies.

Key changes to the 2024 UPC include:
– New guidelines for tileable shower kits and receptors
– Requirements for individual fittings’ temperature-activated flow reduction devices
– Counts of fixtures, privacy compartments, and partitions for all-gender facilities
– New requirements for water distribution and supply manifolds
– Updated guidelines for systems that circulate hot water
– Brand new guidelines for private water tanks from wells
– New regulations for appliance condensate drains that connect to a common indirect waste pipe and serve multiple appliances
– Improved minimum water quality requirements for harvested rainwater systems, onsite treated nonpotable water systems, and nonpotable water devices and systems
– Updated water supply fixture unit (WSFU) and drainage fixture unit (DFU) values for bathroom groups in Appendix C
– A brand-new Appendix O with minimum requirements for sanitation systems without sewers
– New Appendix P outlining minimum qualifications for inspectors, examiners, service technicians, installers, and administrators for systems covered by the UPC
– New Appendix Q addressing plumbing requirements for indoor horticultural facilities
– New Appendix R setting minimum plumbing system requirements for tiny houses
